Happy Valentine's Day!

As it is the day of love and romance it seemed like a good time to launch my two new wedding stationery collections. You've already had a sneak peak at Bookish but I'd also like to introduce you to Big Top - a design with an old-style carnival bill feel to it. The wedding stationery page of my website is now live so you can find out more about my two wedding stationery services there.

Plus, as promised, from Valentine's Day until the end of the month there's a special discount...

I've also put a few more bespoke wedding projects live recently. You can find them on my website. If you're getting married and would like to discuss your ideas for design I'd be delighted to hear from you, just get in touch.

HelloWilson wedding belles

So, for the last few months I've been working away on a slightly new project. Following getting married myself last year and designing the invitations etc for ourselves I've been designing some wedding stationery for other clients. The first finished pieces are starting to filter through on my website. Now I've decided to take things a step further and design some collections of wedding stationery that I can personalise for individual couples. This will be a lower cost option than designing save the dates etc from scratch but still offers quirky design and basically a nice change from the usual hearts and flowers.

I've designed two themes so far, each with a save the date, invite, RSVP card and thank you card. Here's a sneak peak at the save the date from my Bookish theme.

Bookish: unleash your inner librarian

The second theme is still under wraps but I'll post again to tell you about it.

I'm going to have a little launch on 14th February (fitting no?) and from Valentines Day until the end of the month there will be a discount on all wedding design orders placed. Stay tuned for more details!

Why I love Pinterest

On of my favourite Pinterest boards

I first discovered Pinterest quite a while back, signed up for an account, pinned a couple of things and promptly forgot all about it. Then, around the time we were planning our wedding, I rediscovered it and it really came into its own as a tool to research ideas. Now I use it pretty much every day, it's part of my working process. If you're not really sure what all the fuss is about with Pinterest here are some good reasons to start pinning:

1. It's a great research tool. One of my first ports of call when researching a new project is to look at Pinterest, see what people are pinning and set up a moodboard so that I can pin things I find elsewhere. Here's one for a nautical themed wedding invite design

2.
Then, once you've done your research, you can share moodboards really easily with clients

3.
It's a great platform for allowing others to see your work. I tend to pin images and examples of other people's work but maybe 10% of what I pin is my own work. Occasionally I'll do a search to see if others are pinning my work and if so which pieces. As you can see this seahorse is quite popular:

Many seahorses lurk in the boards of Pinterest

4.
Pinterest allows others to discover you - I get a pretty steady flow of traffic from Pinterest to my website and blog. Make sure your url is in your profile and your details are up-to-date

5.
It can be a great advertisement for your style

6.
It can broaden your horizons - it's really fun pinning images from other creative disciplines other than my own, fashion, food, photography

7.
Pinterest is completely different for each person because the content you see depends on who you follow. It's a great way to find out about new trends and artists from people whose style you admire
8. No matter how uninspired you're feeling you can guarantee that someone you follow will have pinned something that makes you say 'wow'

The next step

A week or so ago I blogged some sketches I've been working on. I thought you might want to see some development images.

Making an impression

Just a quick one to let you know that a guest blog post I've written (on the subject of reassuring and impressing new clients) is now available to read over at HipHopSideproject. The blog is run by Kim Lawler, the lady behind the the super cool Finest Imaginary and this post is part of a series Kim has been writing on the subject of working for yourself.

I brainstormed a whole bunch of work related post ideas so hopefully I will write some of them up for the HelloWilson blog quite soon.
